Shocked and apalled.
Alton Brown is a cool guy. I respected his show and totally loved everything he did. Until now.

This is an excerpt from an interview recently posted.

He also points to the Travel Channel's popular eating challenge show "Man vs. Food" as "disgusting." "I think it's a sin," he states. "That show is about gluttony, and gluttony is wrong. It's wasteful. Think about people that are starving to death and think about that show. I think it's an embarrassment."
"You know why? He can go to strange places and he never disrespects anybody. So there's a show about a guy eating stuff, but it's the other side of the coin of 'Man vs. Food.'"

I don't know if you've ever watched Man v. Food, guys, but it's an excellent show. Adam Richman, the host, takes on food challenges and visits great food establishments. Can it be indulgent? Sure. 6 pound burritos might offend someone. If it was just for that, it'd be terrible. But it shows off small restaurants that NEED the business.

Adam is fantastic. He's so happy to be doing what he's doing. He visits these restaurants and treats them all like family; he respects them and what they do. He's just excellent at what he does.
I follow Adam's Twitter...he's such a great, genuine guy that just wants to entertain everyone. He does it to bring well-deserved fame to places that deserve it. He loves what he does. And to have that called "disgusting" is unbelievably rude and shocking.

He tweeted this.
Alton Brown: MvF is about indulgence-NOT gluttony-& has brought loads of biz to Mom-n-Pop places. You were my hero, sir. No more.

Like...his heart is broken here. That was such a horribly rude comment from Alton , I can't even believe it. I can see how it could be "excessive" but it's nowhere near "disgusting." It's an entertaining show, and it's sweet.

I like to remember Alton Brown as the guy that just wanted to explain good food to people. Now he's on his high horse. If you read the rest of the article, he complains about everything in the food industry and gives thumbs up to his friends. I just can't. No more, sir.

I just...I couldn't think of where else to say it but here. That's all.
I don't know where else to air out how angry I am about this. I'm livid, but mostly sad, for Adam. I just kind of wish they could meet and Alton could see how awesome of a guy Adam really is.

P.S. It is just Alton having a problem with it. Even Anthony Bourdain, the master of all food bitchiness, said something along the lines of "I watch Man v. Food. The challenges are crazy... The host is such a great guy...why are they trying to kill him!?" when I saw him this spring. Yeah.

I try to separate the Alton from Good Eats/Iron Chef America from the Alton... everywhere else. I was watching, uh, god, I don't remember, maybe Next Food Network Star? And he came across as such a dick. It broke my heart. :/ I forgot about that until I read this, I guess I managed to block it out.

Poor Adam. I don't watch Man vs Food often but when I catch it on, I always love it. He just seems like a great guy.

People I admire need to stop being lame. Or I need to start separating their creative work from their personality. Like the authors of some of my favorite Doctor Who novels are raving lunatics. Whyyyy. :C

I know, right? You try to separate the two. Whenever he's a judge, he's kind of a douche. It just sucks.

Adam is awesome...he's just such a cool guy, he didn't deserve this.

People who make great things tend to be crazy! It's unfair! haha

I mean, I can kind of see how the concept is gross. But he called the entire show disgusting. I totally admit, some of the challenges are like "ugh, how can you do that?" but the show is so much more than that. I love Good Eats like woah, but this comment just kind of threw me, that's all.

He's definitely gotten a lot...different, I'd say. I just remember old Alton, who was happy about pretty much everything good, wholesome, and food-related.

Alton is an awesome guy, and I love that he does that for businesses. But this comment just threw me. :[

I ADORE Man V Food. It's funny, and Adam is awesome and a brilliant presenter. He's always respectful and nice to the people who work in the places he goes to. I <3 him, and have lost all respect for Alton now that he's said that.

...and I love your Chris Pine icon. That is all. Om nom nom.
